Our Mission

Our countless initiatives, including the Hydroponic Farm, Breaking Barriers Program, Generations United Program, Independent Living for People with Exceptionalities, and Hockey Helps the Homeless, bring hope, comfort, and empowerment to our communities, and inspire individuals to become agents of positive change.

We are on a mission to raise funds and awareness to tackle the most pressing challenges faced by vulnerable youth, families, and seniors in remote and rural communities along the Bonavista Peninsula.

Saltwater Community Association Inc's Initiatives

Our Core Objectives

At Saltwater Community Association Inc., we believe in the power of people coming together to make a real difference. Guided by our motto, “Communities helping communities live better,” we focus on building meaningful connections, providing support, and driving lasting change.

In the communities we serve, from Bonavista to Marystown, we champion social excellence through Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion through initiatives that directly impact:

Equity seeking groups

Together we can make everyone feel like part of their community not marginalized because of their ethnicity, color, disability, gender/transgender or sexual orientation

Partnerships, programs for children & youth

Children and youth are the heart of every community. Through tailored programs and strategic partnerships, we create opportunities that nurture their potential, secure their future, and strengthen the community as a whole.

Poverty Reduction

Committed to reducing poverty, Saltwater Community Association as a non-profit organization in Newfoundland and Labrador focuses on providing resources, opportunities, and support to empower individuals and families, fostering sustainable livelihoods and long-term community well-being.

Affordable housing

The lack of affordable housing in Canada has becoming a growing crisis, leaving countless families and individuals without secure and stable homes. We are dedicated to addressing this pressing issue by creating and supporting initiatives that provide safe, accessible, and affordable housing options.

Senior advocacy

Despite a lifetime of contributions—raising families, nurturing communities, and shaping the world we live in—many seniors face neglect in their later years. Our mission is to stand as their voice, representing their interests and advocating for their rights. Through awareness campaigns, community initiatives, and policy advocacy, we aim to address the unique challenges seniors face, ensuring they enjoy dignity, respect, and an improved quality of life.

Advancement of education and social enterprise initiatives

Education and social enterprise are powerful tools for creating lasting change in individuals and communities. We are dedicated to fostering opportunities that empower people through knowledge and innovative solutions, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s world.

Food hamper programs

Access to nutritious food is a fundamental need, yet many individuals and families face food insecurity. Our Food Hamper Programs are designed to provide immediate relief by delivering essential food supplies to those in need, ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.

Multiculturalism

In today’s highly globalized world, creating a space where individuals from all cultures and backgrounds can come together, collaborate, and engage is essential. Saltwater Community Association is dedicated to promoting multiculturalism by fostering inclusivity, celebrating diversity, encouraging mutual respect, and strengthening the social fabric of our communities.

Safe Transitional Housing for Families Escaping Domestic Violence

Our mission is to provide transitional housing for families fleeing domestic violence. These safe spaces are more than temporary shelters; they offer a foundation for a new beginning thus providing stability, security, and access to vital resources.
